I love the colors and landscapes of the American Southwest. When I first joined the Army in 1989, I made several road trips back and forth between my parents' home in Southern California and the Plains States. I always enjoyed traveling through the Colorado Rockies when my route would take me that way, but the desert scenes through the Southwest are the ones that most firmly etched themselves into my mind. When I had the opportunity to join Robert Rodriguez Jr. on his Arches in Spring Workshop near Moab, Utah, I jumped at it. To date, it is my favorite shoot. Looking at these images, I can still feel the crisp, dry spring air and hear the sound of the desert under my boots as I walked through this glorious landscape.
